Proverbs 31:1-3 1 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him: 2 What, my son ?And what, son of my womb And what, son of my vows? 3 Do not give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings
Proverbs 31:1-3 was written by a mother to her son who was a king. This is a heartfelt proverb, with wonderful instruction from the heart of a mother. It is written with wisdom and a timeless message that we can gleam from. She echoes the warning of a mother to a son, a message that all godly mothers want their sons to hear.
This wise mother knows the temptations of this life that can destroy a young man, and is instructing him in the way he should go. I believe she was concerned about the path her son was taking. She was also reminding him of his godly heritage and the vows she made to God so long ago.
I recently read this Proverb to my own son Ryan during a difficult time that he was going through. I wanted to encourage him and remind him that God has a great plan for his life. It seems like yesterday, but it has been twenty two years now. I was pregnant with him and I made a promise to God that I would do my best to raise him to love and serve the Lord. This has been an awesome responsibility. I always have said to my son that a woman can either make you or break you. My son is a strong leader and I am very proud of him. He is learning everyday what it means to be a man. At the age of 21, he is wise beyond his years. This all comes from training him up in the word of God. He has compassion and knows what is pleasing to the Lord. He is bold and doesn’t have a fear of what others think of him when he is doing the right thing. These are wonderful character traits that are written on the tablet of his heart.
I will continue to pray for my son. We are living in a godless society were sex and the love of money are paraded before our eyes on a daily basis and all these things can turn a young man’s heart away. My son hasn’t always made good choses but he is grateful and thankful for God’s grace, and is growing daily. I am praying for his future wife. I pray he waits for the Lords best for him in a wife. He will continue to go forward in becoming a strong leader, who is able to lead his family into a Godly heritage.
Micah 6: 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good: And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
