The Fear Factor?

The Fear Factor and other reality TV shows that make a profit by exploiting peoples fears. These shows are popular because they entertain us with other people’s fears. In reality fear has no place in a christian’s life. Christians must face their fears by trusting in Jesus to help them overcome. Jesus said fear not for I am with you!

I hear more and more people tell me “well I am afraid to go to that area of town” or “I am afraid to go across the 74 bridge”. I actually have had Christian’s tell me that they are afraid to go into the city of Rock Island because it has a bad reputation. Rock Island is home to over forty thousand people! The vast majority of these people are law abiding citizens. These kinds of fears are born out of ignorance and have no place in a christian’s life. If you are dealing with this kind of fear you need to be in prayer.  God has not given us a spirit of fear! He doesn’t want us to be in bondage again to the fear that the world gives into. We have a new found freedom in Christ if we are born again Christians!

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love

John 8: 36  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

I believe that the media exploits this type of fear. We all know that there is evil in the world.  As Christians should we be fearful when we see the atrocities that are happening in our world? We need to remember we are under the guidance of our Heavenly Father, He is in control. As Christians we shouldn’t be fearful of anything that can happen to us, especially death. We know that it says in the Bible that if we are absent from body we will be in the presence of the Lord. The Bible also says that Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven. We have the hope of eternal life stamped in our hearts.

2 Cor. 5: 7-8 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

John 14:1-2 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

When we watch the news and see all the tragedy that has been going on, first with the shootings in the theater in Colorado and then with the shooting of the staff and precious children at Sandy Hook Elementary school we all get terribly sad and go into a state of shock. Then on Thursday of last week another school shooting at Taft Union High School in California.  As we see the days continue to become more and more evil.  We know that the our future home is getting closer. We can have the peace that passes all understanding. Christian continue to look upward this world isn’t our home.

Jesus says in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
